Big Second Quarter Propels Circleville Over Miami Trace In Girls Hoops

Poor shooting led to Miami Trace falling to Circleville Tuesday night in girls non-conference basketball 47-36.

Miami Trace was outscored 28-13 in the first half giving up 17 second quarter points while shooting just 25 %. Circleville's size and ability to knock down the outside shot proved to the be the difference. Circleville knocked down 12 buckets in the first half, 4 of those came from beyond the arc. They finished the quarter 12-19 for 63%, Miami Trace shot just 20% in the first half going 5-25. The Panthers couldn't buy a bucket, missing many open looks. They were 1-7 from beyond the arc but committed only 4 turnovers compared to 7 by the Lady Tigers.

The second half the Panthers came out and amp'd up their defensive pressure forcing 10 third quarter turnovers but they couldn't turn the turnovers into points as they outscored Circleville 10-9 in the quarter but still trailed by 14 after three, 37-23. Trace also outscored Circleville in the fourth quarter 13-10 but it wasn't enough as the Tigers finished with a 47-36 victory.

The Panthers clawed and fought the entire night but the shots just weren't falling, the length and strength of Circleville was too much, especially the length of 6' sophomore Kenzie McConnell who finished with 13 points, but disrupted and forced Miami Trace to change their shot in the paint the entire night. Senior Shayna Hoop led all scores, dropping 14 points for the Lady Tigers.

Circleville 12-3 finished the night shooting 19-36 for 53% and were 5-9 for 56% from beyond the arc. They committed 20 turnovers and pulled down 25 rebounds.

Miami Trace 7-5 was led by Senior Cassidy Lovett who finished with 11 points, Olivia Wolffe and Shay McDonald each had 9. On the night they shot a dismal 26% going 14-53 including 2-18 from beyond the arc. They were also just 6-14 from the free throw line for 43%. They committed 10 turnovers and pulled down 20 rebounds.
