High School Football Programs On The Decline

Most football fans across the country are excited as the new season is here. But, there’s reason for worry as more and more kids are choosing not to play football.

Some number-crunchers have figured out that participation in football peaked in American high schools during the 2009-2010 school year at 1.1 million players.

Since then, we’re been hearing stories non-stop about concussions and other head trauma caused by the sport.

Mostly because of these stories, the number of kids playing high school football has fallen seven percent, with a lot of that decline happening in the past two years. (NBC News)
