Highland County's largest food pantry is celebrating a milestone birthday this year. Samaritan Outreach Services formed in 1989.
Wade Hamilton with Samaritan Outreach Services, says the pantry offers food assistance to area families, provides education and resources, and assists in locating emergency assistance for those in need. Hamilton says acquiring that amount a food each month simply wouldn't be possible without the pantry's partnership with the Free Store Foodbank in Cincinnati.
Samaritan Outreach Services is nearly 95-percent funded by local contributions. Wade says the pantry receives one grant each year for about $4,000, but the rest comes from the local community.
Samaritan Outreach is operated by a small handful of employees and over 60 dedicated volunteers.
It's located at 537 North East Street in Hillsboro if you'd like to check them out.
