Lady Lions One Step Closer to Fourth District Title

Lady Lion Offense Pounds Out 13 Hits

 

The Fairfield Lady Lions (19-6, 10-3 SHAC) took one step closer to their fourth consecutive Southeast District title with a 9-0 shutout victory over the No. 2 seeded Alexander Lady Spartans (20-3) in the Division III District semi-final game played at Unioto High School.

 

The Fairfield Lady Lions were dominating this afternoon in all phases of the game.   Kaiti White was dominating in the circle throwing her 12th shutout of the season, scattering 5 hits while striking out 4 Lady Spartan batters. The Lady Lions defense was spectacular behind White making no less than four diving plays: two by second baseman Carli Reiber, one by third baseman Molly Thackston, and one All SHAC first baseman Lyndee Spargur.  The Lady Lion offense collected 13 hits while scoring 9 runs including a very impressive 8 runs on 8 hits in the second inning.  

 

The Fairfield Lady Lions were extremely focused and excited from the very first pitch and kept that energy and intensity throughout the game.  They played with confidence and poise. 

 

After a scoreless first inning, the Fairfield Lady Lions erupted in the second inning.  Layla Hattan drew a base on balls to start the inning.  Lauren Arnold had a bunt single to advance Hattan to second base, Taylor Lawson singled up the middle to score Hattan as Arnold took third and Lawson sent to second base on the throw home.  Megan Crum entered the game as a pinch runner for Lawson.  Molly Thackston singled to right field to drive home Arnold.  Megan Gragg had an infield hit to score Crum.  Madison Fox followed with a slap hit to drive in Thackston.  Lyndee Spargur singled to the left side of the infield.  Carli Reiber reached first on a fielder’s choice, but Gragg was forced out at home.  Kaiti White also was safe on a fielder’s choice, but Fox was forced out at the plate.  Layla Hattan singled to centerfield to score Spargur and Reiber.  Lauren Arnold then singled to left field to drive in Lowe running for White and Hattan.

 

The Lady Lions would add a run in the top of the fourth inning.  Kaiti White doubled to the fence in left centerfield to lead off the inning.  Hayleigh Lowe entered the game as a courtesy runner for White and scored on a single by Lauren Arnold.  Lady Spartan starting pitcher Gracie Hill would then give way to Brooke Casto, who came into the game and retired the Lady Lions with no further damage in the inning.

 

Feeding off the energy of the big second inning, Kaiti White and the Lady Lions defense retired the Lady Spartans in order in the third and fourth inning.  White would scatter three hits over the last three innings to nail down the victory and send the Lady Lions to the Southeast District championship game for the fourth consecutive year.

 

Leading hitters for the Lady Lions:  Lyndee Spargur (2 for 4, 1 run), Carli Reiber (0 for 3, sac bunt, 1 run),  Kaiti White (1 for 4, double, 2 runs), Layla Hattan ( 1 for 3, 2 runs, 1 rbi),  Lauren Arnold (4 for 4, 1 run, 3 rbi),  Taylor Lawson ( 1 for 2, 2 walks, 1 rbi),  Molly Thackston (1 for 4, 1 run, 1 rbi), Megan Gragg (1 for 4, 1 rbi),  Madison Fox (2 for 4, 1 rbi).

 

Kaiti White (18-5) was the winning pitcher for Fairfield.  Kaiti’s pitching line: 7 innings, 5 hits, no runs, no earned runs, no walks, 4 strikeouts.  Gracie Hill   suffered the loss for Alexander:  3.3 innings, 12 hits, 9 runs, 9 earned runs, 2 walks, 2 strikeouts.   Brooke Casto’s pitching line:  3.6 innings, 1 hit, no runs, 1 walk, no strikeouts.

 

The Fairfield Lady Lions advance to play the Chesapeake Lady Panthers (14-6) the No. 5 Seed from the East in the Southeast District Finals tomorrow (Saturday), May 19th at 1:00 PM at Unioto High School in Chillicothe.  Chesapeake defeated Westfall 10-2 this afternoon.
