Hillsboro Indians Continue Tourney Magic

The Division 2 Baseball Tournament trail has been filled with potholes for higher seeded teams, with many of them being upset along the way. The Hillsboro Indians have set their share of landmines along the way, having now upset a second higher seed to advance to the district final, Wednesday night at Ohio University.

The Indians were a #7 seed going into the tournaments and opened with a win over #10 seed New Lexington. That apparently was a tune-up, as Hillsboro then throttled #2 seed Washington CH 15-4 for the sectional crown, then added to their resume Monday night with a 1-0 win over #6 seed Gallia Academy in 8 innings.

Hillsboro will now face Circleville in the upper bracket district final at 5pm May 16th, which will be broadcast on Buckeye Country 105.5FM and world-wide on iHeart Radio.

Circleville advanced with a 12-5 upset win over top-seed Zane Trace. The Pioneers loss, was was the second top-seed to fall, after Miami Trace was bumped from the post season by #9 seed Logan Elm in the sectional final.

The Hillsboro-Circleville game will be the first of two district title games at Ohio University's Bob Wren Field on Wednesday. The night-cap features #2 seed Unioto against #4 seed Athens for the lower bracket title. That game will be heard on iHeart Media affiliate 94 Country WKKJ.

The winners of both district championship games will meet each other in the D-2 Regional Semis at Ohio University on Thursday, May 24th. The Regionals were moved to OU this year, after being played for decades in Zanesville.
