CHARLES ELWOOD LEWIS, age 78, of Washington CH, passed away on Sunday, December 31, 2017 at 4:48 p.m. at the Adena Regional Medical Center.
He was born on June 5, 1939 in Highland County to William and Addie Workman Lewis. He was a 1957 graduate of McClain High School. Charles proudly served his country in the U.S. Navy. He retired in 2001 from Howards Foods Inc. in Springfield. Charles faithfully attended Crossroads Christian Church, was a member of Gideons International and the Emmaus team. He enjoyed fishing, camping, and being with his family and grandchildren.
Charles was preceded in death by his parents; siblings, Chessie Lewis, Iva (Elbert) Wallace, George (Elizabeth) Lewis, Elva (Wyla) Goddard, William (Eva) Lewis, Ralph Lewis, and Doris (Don) McCullough; sister-in-law, Ann Mowery, and brother-in-law, Roger Shackelford.
Survivors include his wife, Gloria Kaye Mowery Lewis, whom he married on October 22, 1960; his children, Jeff (Debbie) Lewis, and Crystal (Chris) Tobin; grandchildren, Michael Lewis, Jessica (James) Malone, Stephen (Kaitlyn) Lewis and Dylan (Hillary) Tobin; great-granddaughter, Lucy Rose Tobin; and brothers and sisters-in-law, Donald (Christa) Mowery, Bill Mowery, Jane (Dean) Greene, Ednabelle Shackelford, and Armina Winn. Also surviving are several nieces, nephews, cousins, and a host of friends.
The funeral service will be held on Saturday, January 6, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. at the Crossroads Christian Church, 175 Halliday Way, Washington CH, OH 43160, with Todd Mauer and Joy Stanforth officiating with burial to follow at the Washington Cemetery. Friends may visit at the church on Friday evening from 6-8:00 p.m. In keeping with Mr. Lewis’s wishes, cremation has taken place.
