Angelina Jolie and George Clooney were recruited to play undercover international spies and not for a movie role.
A former prosecutor for the International Criminal Court had a history of recruiting Hollywood elites. Clooney was supposed to find dirt on former Libyan dictator Muammar Gaddafi, who was killed six years ago.
Meanwhile, Angie volunteered to be the "honey pot" in catching African warlord Joseph Kony. The game plan was to embed Jolie with United States Special Forces. She’d invite Kony to a dinner, where troops would arrest him. Prosecutor Luis Moreno Ocampo said in an email, "Forget other celebrities, Angie is the one. She'd love to arrest Kony. She is ready. Probably Brad Pitt will go also." But the plan never came to fruition.
Moreno Ocampo wanted Sean Penn to spy on Palestinians. He flippantly responded to the request, "While you make the decision on Palestine, I’m embroiled in a decision whether or not to get a steam in the hotel spa.” (The Sunday London Times)
