Update: Tropical Storm Harvey: Death Toll Rises To At Least 30

The death toll from tropical storm Harvey rose to at least 30 on Tuesday, as the slow-moving storm continued to hit the region for a sixth consecutive day before beginning to move to southwest Louisiana.

Houston Mayor Sylvester Turner said that the city's focus "will continue to be on rescue" rather than damage assessment or recovery. He also put a citywide curfew in place from midnight to 5 a.m. for the foreseeable future.

The storm continues to break records with parts of Houston drenched with 51.88 inches of rain since the storm began, setting a new record for rainfall from a single storm anywhere in the continental U.S.

All that rain meant a whole lot of rescues, with the Houston Police Department rescuing more than 3,500 people. (The New York Times)
