A World War II Military Awards Ceremony will be held at Southern State Community College on Hobart Drive in Hillsboro, next month. Officials say the event for Mr. Harry Shoop will start at 6 p.m., August 7th.
In 1945, during WWII, Shoop served as a Platoon Sergeant in the Philippines and was injured by enemy forces during combat. After 72 years of not being acknowledged as having been injured during war, Shoop will officially be pinned with his Bronze Star, Purple Heart, WWII Victory Medal, and Combat Infantryman Badge on Purple Heart Day.
The event is open to the public.
