Lonnie E. Stroup, 70, of Chillicothe, formerly of Frankfort, died at 4:18 p.m. on Tuesday, February 7, 2017 at Adena Regional Medical Center, Chillicothe. He was born on September 15, 1946 in Portsmouth, the son of the late Herman and Wilma Holbrook Stroup. On August 5, 1966 he married the former Elizabeth "Betty" Townshend, and she survives.
Also surviving are two children, Penny (Randy) Wells of Frankfort, Shane Stroup of Chillicothe, two grandchildren, Racheal Roman and Ryan Wells, two great-grandchildren, Ross and Rhett Roman, and three sisters, Teresa (Dale) Knisley of Greenfield, Connie Griffin of Beavercreek, and Ruthanna Resitar of Howell MI. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Scott and Mike Stroup, one sister, Robin Stroup, and his step-father, William "Bill" Moore.
Lonnie was a 1964 graduate of Frankfort High School. He was a member of the United States Air Force, and served during the Vietnam War. He was a member of the Chillicothe VFW Post 108, Chillicothe AmVets and Chillicothe Moose Lodge, as well as the Little Buck Lodge, Frankfort. Lonnie worked at the Budd Co., in Frankfort, and retired from the VA Hospital, Chillicothe.
In keeping with Lonnie's wishes, cremation has taken place. A graveside service and burial of his cremains will be held at 11am on Saturday, February 18, 2017 in the Greenlawn Cemetery, Frankfort where the Ross County Veterans Guard will accord military honors.
