(Wilmington) -- The Wilmington Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol is currently investigating a single vehicle fatal traffic crash that occurred on State Route 753 near mile post 16 at approximately 11:58 A.M. on April 14, 2023 in Madison Township, Highland County, Ohio.
Preliminary investigation revealed that 75-year-old Richard E. Shockey of Greenfield was northbound in a 2013 Chrysler Town & Country minivan on State Route 753. He failed to negotiate a curve, drove off the left side of the roadway, struck a culvert, ditch, and a tree head on.
Shockey was transported to a local hospital where he was pronounced deceased by the Highland County Coroner’s Office.
The Highland County Sheriff’s Office, Ohio Department of Transportation, and Paint Creek Fire/EMS assisted troopers on scene.
The crash remains under investigation by the Ohio State Highway Patrol.
