Lane shifts and restrictions will be imparted this week on U.S. Route 22 in Wilmington as part of an intersection improvement and urban paving project.
On Friday, August 20, contractors for the Ohio Department of Transportation will close the eastbound lanes of U.S. 22 / Rombach Avenue, between Eastside Drive and Walmart Drive for storm sewer construction, water and sanitary line installation, pavement repairs, and curb, sidewalk and signal work.
Two-way traffic will be shifted to the westbound lanes and maintained in one lane in each direction, and the restrictions are anticipated to be in effect through mid-September.
The entire project is outlined over two parts. It includes constructing a loon at Progress Way; improving the radius at Lowe's Drive; improving the signalization at Walmart Drive; reconstructing degraded portions of curb, walk, drainage structures and pavement; constructing approximately 4,800 feet of a shared-use path; and resurfacing nearly three miles of Rombach Avenue between Eastside Drive and the Wilmington corporation limit.
The "loon" at Progress Way is pavement constructed outside of the normal traffic lanes to allow for larger vehicles to safely make a U-turn on a divided roadway.
The John R. Jurgensen Company was awarded a contract for approximately $9.3 million to complete the project, and all work is scheduled to be completed in the spring of 2022.
