It was a tale of two half’s Friday night at Gardner Park as the Washington Court House Blue Lions came back from down 27 points to defeat Miami Trace 38-33.
Miami Trace came out hot, taking the opening drive 6 plays going 54 yards ending with a Jayden LeBeau 1 yard touchdown run. From there it seemed like a Trace route as they scored once more in the first quarter then twice in the second quarter to take a 27-0 lead. Then with just over one minute left in the half Washington was able to get in the scoring column as Trevaughn Jackson scored on a 20 yard touchdown catch from Ethan Rogers-Wright as time expired. From there it was all Blue Lions.
Washington Court House scored 31 unanswered points from the end of the first half through much of the second half. The Blue Lions took their first lead of the night at with 5:14 to go in the game. Miami Trace rebounded with on the next drive with a 59 yard throw and catch from Weston Melvin to Josh Gilmore to put Trace up by two 33-31.
As time was expiring In the game Ethan Rogers-Wright hit Tanner Lemaster on a 30 yard touchdown strike that the 6’5 sophomore receiver climbed the ladder to grab the ball out of the air and give the Blue Lions the victory.
Washington Court House only managed 80 total yards in the first half but went crazy in the second half totaling 429 yards for the game. Rogers-Wright finished with 257 yards passing on 19-33 passing and rushed for 91 yards on the ground.
Miami Trace finished with 417 total yards led by Jayden LeBeau’s 119 yards on the ground and Weston Melvin passed for 242 yards on 11-36 passing. Miami Trace plays at Chillicothe next Friday for week 1 of the playoffs while Washington Court House will host Thurgood Marshall next Saturday.
