Fayette County Public Health (FCPH) and Fayette County Emergency Management Agency (FCEMA) are seeking people with medical and non-medical backgrounds for the Medical Reserve Corps (MRC) who are interested in helping their community during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Licensed health and medical professionals and non-healthcare professionals are needed to volunteer and assist public health staff during the expected surge of COVID19 patients. Volunteers must be 18 years and older.
“We need persons who may be on leave of absence from their position in the medical field, retirees, or college students working towards a medical certification,” explained FCEMA Director Melissa Havens. “Physical therapists, athletic trainers, respiratory therapists and anyone with a healthcare credential are needed.” Havens emphasizes that rules may be expanded for persons whose credentials are newly expired as well.
Non-medical volunteers are needed to assist with support services. “There really is a place for everyone,” said Havens. Ohio Responds Volunteer Registry is a volunteer opportunity site shared by the Ohio Emergency Management Agency (Ohio EMA) and the Ohio Department of Health (ODH). About the Medical Reserve Corps
The Medical Reserve Corps (MRC) is a national network of volunteers, organized locally to improve the health and safety of their communities. The MRC network comprises approximately 180,000 volunteers in roughly 860 community-based units located throughout the United States and its territories.
MRC volunteers include medical and public health professionals, as well as other community members without healthcare backgrounds. MRC units engage these volunteers to strengthen public health, improve emergency response capabilities, and build community resiliency. They prepare for and respond to natural disasters, such as wildfires, hurricanes, tornados, blizzards, and floods, as well as other emergencies affecting public health, such as disease outbreaks.
