Panthers Roll to First FAC Victory

Miami Trace rolled to a 28 point victory Saturday night in FAC play in a 59-31 win over the Jackson Ironladies without the reigning Co-FAC player of the year Shay McDonald.

The Panthers jumped out to a 19-10 first quarter lead and never looked back. Jackson did play even with the Panthers in the second quarter being outscored by one point 11-10 but Trace led at the half 30-20. Miami Trace forced Jackson into 12 first half turnovers and only 38% shooting going 8-21 including 4-11 from beyond the arc. Miami Trace didn't shoot much better in the first going 9-29 for 31% and only making one 3-point shot.

The start of the third quarter began the route. The Panthers outscored Jackson 29-11 for the rest of the game, outscoring the Ironladies 15-5 in the third and 14-6 in the fourth and they did it with defense. Jackson was forced to speed up their game on the offensive side and ended up settling for a lot of bad shots, most from behind the arc. Jackson shot 24 three point shots on the night and only 5.

It was offense by committee for Miami Trace with McDonald on the sidelines, led by Delaney Eakins who cruised to a game high 19 points, dominating the paint. Magarah Bloom dropped double digits with 10 points, Libby Aleshire had 8, Hillery Jacobs, Sidney Payton and Aubrey McCoy had 4, Gracey Ferguson and Mallory Lovett finished with 3 and Addison Little had 1. for the night Trace shot 20-56 for 36%, pulled down 35 rebounds and had 20 turnovers.

Jackson (0-3) was led by scrappy 5'0" sophomore point guard, Katelyn Webb's 18 points. She was the only Ironlady in double figures. Jackson shot 13-50 from the court including 5-24 from behind the arc, had 20 rebounds and 23 turnovers.

Miami Trace (1-1) next plays at home on Wednesday night against the Chillicothe Lady Cavs at 7 p.m. from Miami Trace. Buckeye Country 105.5 air time will be 6:45 p.m.
