Lady Panthers Force 30 Turnovers In Victory

The Miami Trace Lady Panthers picked up a big non league victory Wednesday night over the visiting North Adams Green Devils, 50-45. North Adams made it interesting in second half coming back from an 18 point deficit to to cut the lead to 3 but Miami Trace never trailed and they improved their record to 14-7 overall.

The Panthers led from the get go as Senior Lena Steele scored the first points of the night as Coach Ackley started all Seniors on Senior night. The Panthers led by 9 after the first quarter 15-6 forcing N. Adams into 9 first quarter turnovers. The second quarter was much of the same as the Lady Green Devils committed 19 first half turnovers and the Panthers took a 26-13 lead into the half.

The third quarter saw North Adams start to heat up a bit as they outscored Miami Trace 14-12 but still trailed by 11 going into the final period. The fourth started with North Adams knocking down four three point shots, they made six in the second half, but two from Grace McDowell and two from Braylie Jones to get the lead cut down to six. But North Adams couldn't get any closer than three points and the Panthers prevailed. It wasn't from lack of effort as North Adams found a weak spot in the Miami Trace Defense that they tried all night to take advantage, they kept feeding the ball to 6' sophomore DeLaney Harper who finished with a game high 19.

North Adams finished the night with 30 turnovers but knocked down 6 three point shots. They finished the night shooting 15-36 for 42%. Wylie Shipley was the only other North Adams player in double figures.

Miami Trace was led in scoring by Cassidy Lovett who dropped 16 on the night, Shay McDonald finished with 14. The Panthers shot 18-57 for 32% and made just one three point shot, going 1-14 for 7%, they did knock down 13-19 free throws, comitted 113 turnovers and were out rebounded 25-21.

Miami Trace plays at Jackson on Thursday and then returns home on Saturday to play Washington Court House.
