GIRL'S D-III Regional Semi Final at Logan HS
Proctorville Fairland 64, Greenfield McClain 42
The McClain Lady Tigers was held scoreless the first 6 minutes and 46 seconds of the opening period falling behind 12-0 and never could get closer than 10 points losing Wednesday night in the regional semi-finals at Logan High School.
McClain trailed 19-5 after the first period and were down 29-13 late in the 2nd quarter when they went on a 6-0 run to pull again to within 10 points (29-19). That was the closest they got the rest of the contest.
McClain (15-8 overall) shot only 22% from the field and had 23 turnovers in the contest. They were able to mount a few scoring streaks by hitting 15 of 22 from the charity stripe.
Fairland (23-3) playing in their 3rd straight regional semi-finals outrebounded the Tigers by a 31-21 margin and shot close to 45% from the field and was 17 of 24 from the free throw line. They turned the ball over 19 times.
Shania Massie led McClain with 18 points and Katy Unger added 12 points.
Lady Dragons had 4 players in double figures led by Terra Stapleton with 14 points, Taylor Perry had 12 points and with 11 points each was Kelsey Riley and Caitlin Stone.
Proctorville will play Sugarcreek Garaway on Saturday at 1:30pm for a berth to the Final 4. Garaway trailed early 14-4 to Nelsonville-York before chipping away and took first lead early in the 4th period and held on to win 47-44.
