The SCOL had three individuals and a relay team all finish in the top 10 Saturday as the OHSAA Track & Field State Championships ended the 2014 season.
The Lady Cavs Tanea Cousins finished 5th in the girls long jump. She had a top jump of 17 feet-8 1/4 inches beating her personal best of 17-6 set last week at the regionals which was the previous Cavaliers school record. It was the third time in the last four years that the Lady Cavs have placed an athlete in the top 8 of their event.
So close...three 9th place finishes kept several athletes and a relay team off of the state podium (top 8 are point placers).
The Washington Court House Lady Lions 4 x 400 meter relay team coming off a school record 4.02.57 last week in the regionals finished 9th place in the finals with a time of 4.06.33. The team is made up of all underclassmen in juniors Molly Richards & Morgan Harper, sophomore Alexis Gray & freshman Kynzie Osbourne. It's the 4th year in a row that the Lady Lions have qualified at least one relay team to the state meet & this year unit was the first to qualify for the finals.
Miami Trace Caleb Wilt finished in 9th place in the 300 hurdles. He was 12th in the 110 hurdles at last year's state event.
Caleb, a junior ran a time of 39.77 seconds. He set a new school record at last week regional of 39.06 seconds.
Greenfield McClain senior Tara Karnes also finished in 9th place in the shot put. She had a best toss of 38 feet-2 3/4 inches---just 1/2 inch out of 8th place. She too set a new school record at last week regional at 39 feet 8 inches.
