Warmer weather has many rural residents thinking more about open burning outdoors.

Ed Helt is the fire marshal of Union and Jefferson Townships. Ed says the rules for open burning includes restrictions on burning garbage or any waste materials from the handling or preparation and eating of food.

The restrictions do not include building materials or demo material- including fallen barns or buildings, which is a change in EPA rules.
