Philip Hunt Smith

Philip Hunt Smith, 64, of Washington Court House, Ohio died Thursday, August 10, 2017, at 6:15 a.m. at Mount Carmel West in Columbus where he had been a patient one day.

            Philip was born January 5, 1953, in Charleston, SC to Roy Earl and Marguerite Teresa Hunt Smith.  He was a 1971 graduate of Columbus West High School and received a bachelor’s degree from The Ohio State University in 1976. He moved to Washington Court House 26 years ago from Columbus.

Before his retirement three years ago, he was a truck driver.  He was a member of Teamsters Union 413 in Columbus.

He was preceded in death by his father in 1989; a half-brother, Paul “Skip” Smith; a half-sister, Georgia Smith Bunker and his father-in-law, Albert Young.

Philip is survived by his wife, Sonja Denise Young Smith; six children, Brandon Smith of Washington, D.C., Christin Smith of New Orleans, Kelsey Smith of Chicago, Molly Smith of Berea, KY, Ryan Smith of Chicago and Garrett Smith of Berea, KY; his mother, Marguerite Smith of Columbus; siblings, Colleen Smith, Timothy Smith, Cathleen Smith Eby and Maureen Smith, all of Columbus, Matthew Smith of Vinton Co.; a half-brother, Roger West; a half-sister, Stephanie Smith Weber of Long Beach, CA and his mother-in-law, Roberta Young of South Vienna.

The funeral will be Sunday, August 13, 2017, at 4 p.m. at the Kirkpatrick Funeral Home in Washington Court House where a visitation will be held Sunday from 2 p.m. until time of the service.  A graveside service will be held Monday at 3:30 p.m. at the Smith Cemetery in Hampden, WV.
