Marcia Hartman Baumann, 90, of Washington Court House, Ohio passed away peacefully, Sunday, June 25, 2017, at St. Catherine's Manor of Washington Court House after a brief illness.
She was born July 16, 1926, in Cincinnati, Ohio, the daughter of the late Joseph Reed Hartman and Edna Mae Lodwick Hartman of Cincinnati. She was proud of her father, J. Reed Hartman, a philanthropist for which the J. Reed Hartman Business Center and the J. Reed Hartman Highway were named after. The highway slices through Blue Ash, the northern border of Hamilton County and links I-71 and I-75. Her pride continued as her mother was a pioneer in teaching, being one of the first female physical education teachers in her time as well as a poet and music composer.
Marcia graduated from Withrow High School before earning a bachelor’s degree in geology as well as a bachelor’s degree and certification in education from the University of Cincinnati. She was also a member of Kappa Kappa Gamma sorority.
One of the greatest commitments in her life, was her dedication to the children of the community as a math teacher at Eastside Elementary and later at Washington Middle School. She continued to share her knowledge by teaching at Southern State Community College. Her passion for geology and the collection of rocks continued throughout her life.
Marcia spent many years of her life devoted to hosting foreign exchange students, from all over the world, who sought to learn about the United States and assisted them in furthering their education.
She loved her home, watching birds, the wildlife, crops growing in the fields, and the topography of Fayette County.
Marcia continued her family's love of the Presbyterian Church, the closeness of the church family, and the music programs of the church and community.
Later in life, she began a new passion of painting under the study of the local artist Harry Ashen.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 30 years, Ervin E. Baumann, and her husband of 29 years, Walter H. Seifried who was the father of her children.
She is survived by her son, Walter J. Seifried (Nancy) and three daughters, Marcia J. Seifried (Sue Kiser), Marilyn E. Crabtree (Bob) and Heli Knorrek (Rick Stier); four granddaughters, Chrissy Weaver (Chris), Barbara Rust-Hackner (Kurt), Johanna Rust and Magdalena Rust; ten great grandchildren, Taylor and Shelby Spires, Charley, Jonah, Addi, Lexi, and Jalen Weaver, Theresa, Lorenz and Louis Hackner and several special cousins and friends.
The family and friends enjoyed the 90th birthday party held in celebration of her life last July. Marcia's family holds close to their hearts her memory and the compassionate care and attention given to her by her church family, St Catherine's and Heartland Hospice Staff.
A private family graveside service will be held by the children in Cincinnati, Ohio.
