LaVerne Dale Haugen

LaVerne Dale Haugen, 85, of Washington Court House, Ohio died Thursday, June 22, 2017, at 5:25 p.m. at his home.  He had been ill three months.

Verne was born December 2, 1931, in Bellefontaine, Ohio to Arthur D. and Lula Delight Hone Haugen.  He was a graduate of De Graff High School and received a Bachelor of Science degree in Pharmacy from the Ohio Northern University.

He, along with his wife, Barbara, were co-owners of Risch Pharmacy in Washington Court House from 1973, until his retirement in 2000.  Verne served as president and treasurer and Barb was vice president and secretary.

Verne was a member and past president of the Washington Rotary Club and the Washington Park Association and was a member and served on the boards of director of the Huntington Bank in Washington Court House, Hospice of Fayette County, Inc., the Fayette County Y.M.C.A. and the American Red Cross in Fayette County.

He was preceded in death by his wife, the former Barbara Louise Brewer on November 21, 2003; by his parents and a brother, Warren Haugen.

 Verne is survived by two children, Terri Monnett and her husband, Steve Parker, of Columbus and Marcus Haugen and his wife, Betsy, and two grandchildren, Ben Haugen and his wife, Leah, and Sara Haugen, all of Columbia, SC.

A memorial service will be held Thursday, July 6, 2017, at 11 a.m. at the Grace Community Church with Pastor Jay Lucas, minister at the church, and the Rev. Stephen J. Cuff, former vicar at St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church, officiating.  Private burial will be in the Washington Cemetery.

There will be no calling hours.

Arrangements are under the direction of the Kirkpatrick Funeral Home in Washington Court House.
