One person has died following a two-vehicle crash on US 50 in Highland County, Friday morning. Officials with the Highway Patrol say 33-year-old Betty L. Shelton, of Hillsboro, was driving northbound on Danville Road and failed to yield at a stop sign while making a left turn onto US 50 West.

As a result, 52-year-old James C. Patton, of Lynchburg, who was eastbound on a motorcycle, crashed into the side of Shelton's car.

Patton, who was not wearing a helmet, was ejected and pronounced dead at the Highland District Hospital.

Authorities say the crash remains under investigation, but speed and alcohol are not believed to be factors in the accident.
