The toll taken by substance abuse addictions and need for mental health care services has caused one area agency to grow dramatically in just a few years.

The Recovery Council started as a small group in Waverly in 1977, when members of their community expressed the need for help in dealing with various addictions to drugs and alcohol. Now they have spread-out to multiple counties in the region.

Recruiting Coordinator Brenda Jones says they have various methods of outreach.

To show how much worse the addiction problem has gotten in a short period of time, Recovery Council employed 16 people in the year 2010. Now, they have more than 100 employees working with those suffering with addictions in the region.
